NEW BANDS - THE PROGRAM FOR OUR WACKINGER STAGE!

Today we give you another big update for Wacken Open Air 2018 - we present the majority of the program for our Wackinger Stage! Vikings, knights, minstrels and many other characters from the past are joining the lineup.
We start with the German-Danish Pagan project Heilung. The boundaries between musical show and pagan rituals blur almost completely when this band hits the stage - an absolutely unique experience for all the senses! Imagine a more rough version of Wardruna.
Arkona are dedicated to the history of Europe too, but they focus on the Slavs. Their Pagan Metal extends the classic lineup of electric guitar, electric bass, keyboard, drums and vocals with bagpipes, percussion and other historical instruments. Their new album Khram was released in January and we are looking forward to her debut in Wacken!
Heidevolk's focus is also on Pagan and Folk Metal and they also use historical instruments occasionally. And there is even a third match: Heidevolk also released a new album in January too!
Skiltron is the first band of this wave that has already played in Wacken. The Argentinians have dedicated themselves to folk and power metal and already in 2015 they were able to prove to us how well this works at Wacken! A test that also worked fine for the medieval rock band Ingrimm and the bagpipe rockers Red Hot Chilli Pipers Both bands return to Wacken in the summer!
For the first time, we will also welcome the four singers of Exit Eden, who are dedicated to the task of reworking known rock and pop hits into Symphonic Metal songs. And because Clementine Delauney is already there, we'll take the chance right away: Visions of Atlantis will play for the second time!
Ignis Fatuu have already rocked Wacken twice and now they will return! This also applies to
Ganaim and Pampatut.
Our list continues with the musketeer rockers of D'Artagnan and the Hungarian folk metal band Dalriada. Both acts will be at Wacken Open Air for the first time.
Croatian lyrics, rocking sounds and electro elements are creating the music from Manntra, who will be playing at the festival for the first time. And also on Metusa we are very curious, the musicians combine ska, punk and folk to a unique mix.
The lineup for the 29th Wacken Open Air is almost complete now! At least we have announced enough bands to publish the first version of our Running Order soon. So stay tuned!

The Metal Battle takes place for the 14th time in 2017. Since then it brings together the worldwide metal scenes at the Wacken Open Air. The contest supported several bands at their starting point of their career, e.g. Drone, Torture Squad, Battle Beast and Hammercult. But not only for the bands the Metal Battle is a fantastic option to represent themselves. Although many countries joined the Metal Battle which the metal world didn’t pay much attention to before; even as these countries have a great metal scene as well. That’s the reason why the Metal Battle grew and more than 40 countries joined the competition. Countries like Canada, Mexico, South Africa, the Middle East, Bulgaria, China, Japan (just to name a few) entered this worldwide network to figure out one band that represents their local scene at the international final round at the Wacken Open Air. Traditionally the final takes place at the WET Stage and the Headbanger’s Stage of the W:O:A. The bands do have the option to give hell to the audience of the biggest metal festival in the world and to show them what metal is about in their home country. In the end the jury will select a “top 5” and the bands will be rewarded with material and cash prizes. Also the Metal Battle final at the W:O:A will be a forum for all participating bands where they can get in touch with producers, manager, booking agents and labels. So the Metal Battle gives a chance to all participating bands to establish contacts which can be useful for their musical future. In mehr als einer Dekade hat der Wettbewerb einige Bands beim Start in ihre Karriere unterstützt und begleitet. So haben in der Vergangenheit Bands wie z.B. Drone, Torture Squad, Battle Beastund Hammercult den Startpunkt ihrer erfolgreichen Karriere beim Metal Battle gesetzt. Aber nicht nur den Bands bereitet der Metal Battle eine Plattform. Traditionell findet das Metal Battle Finale auf der WET Stage und auf der Headbanger’s Stage des W:O:As statt. Die Bands haben hier die Möglichkeit dem Publikum des größten Metal Festivals einzuheitzen und ihnen zu zeigen, was Metal in ihrer Heimat bedeutet. Am Ende der Veranstaltung wird eine „Top 5“ ermittelt. Diese Bands werden dann mit Sach- und Geldpreisen belohnt. Zusätzlich wird der Metal Battle jeder teilnehmenden Band auf dem W:O:A ein Forum bestehend aus Produzenten, Bookern, Managern und Labels bieten. Dieses soll ein Sprungbrett darstellen; jede Band soll vor Ort die Möglichkeit haben Kontakte zu knüpfen, die für ihre musikalische Zukunft nützlich sein wird.
